Apple is Testing iOS 4.1 on Unknown New Product and New iPod, iPad

Apple is internally testing iOS 4.1 on the next generation iPod touch and iPad along with an unknown new product, according to AppleInsider.

According to their sources, the latest beta of iOS 4.1 includes three new "Configuration Descriptors" within its USB configuration files.

The first product, a new iPod touch, is referenced as "iPod 4,1". This indicates a major fourth generation update to the device. The first three generations of the iPod touch were identified as "iPod 1,1," "iPod 2,1" and "iPod 3,1," respectively.

A second product is referenced as "iProd 2,1." It's believed that this code refers to the next iPad since the same "iProd" term was used for the iPad prior to its announcement.

Finally, AppleInsider has discovered mention of a mysterious device listed only as "unknownHardware." The device is tagged with a unique Apple product ID of 20547; however, its descriptor only reads "Unknown- Add device descriptor info for this device."

It's thought that perhaps this unknown device is the rumored iTV, an updated Apple TV that runs iOS, streams iTunes media, and costs $99.

Typically, Apple holds a September iPod event which could see the release of a new Apple TV as well.
