iPhone charger uses electroluminescent lights to show charging speed

iPhone chargers are a dime a dozen, so what makes Dexim's Visible Green Charger different? It has a special cord that uses electroluminescent light to show you how fast your iOS device is charging.

The Visible Green Charger is one of the greenest chargers we've ever seen. Dexim's goal with the charger is to reduce standby power by up to 85% when your iOS device is not in use. The charger's EL light cord will flow rapidly to indicate that your iOS device is charged up to 65% and will slow down as the device battery starts to fill up.

A Dexim representative told us that some competitors use LED lights in its charger cords for the sake of appearance, but at the expense of function. The Visible Green Charger is not like that, its EL light is on only when it's charging. It automatically shuts off when your iOS device is fully charged — completely cutting all power from the charger to the outlet to be as eco-friendly as possible.

The Visible Green Charger is $40 and will be available by the end of the month. The charger currently only supports most iOS devices, but hopefully Dexim will expand it to other smartphones and portable gadgets that charge through USB.

Boxee Previews Boxee App for iPad at CES

Boxee is previewing an application for the iPad at CES 2011.

We have been working the past few months on Boxee for iPad, and while it is not ready to launch we are giving people at the CES Show a sneak peek of the App. It enables you to access videos from your Watch Later list as well as from your Feed (stuff shared from Facebook / Twitter), and staying true to Boxee roots also enables you to stream videos directly to the iPad from your PC/Mac (without requiring you to sync).

You can watch videos on the iPad using the new app, but it only takes one click to send that video to your D-Link/Iomega/ViewSonic Boxee device. "Ze nice," as we say in the office.

If anyone has footage or screenshots of the application please let us know!

Machined Aluminum iPad 2 Mockup Found at CES

Engadget stumbled across a iPad case at CES that contained a machined aluminum iPad 2 mockup inside.

Dexim is the eager exhibitor, with an actually very intriguing case design involving a Bluetooth keyboard that magnetically adheres to the front cover of the book-like sleeve, allowing for a laptop-style setup, or a keyboard-free case when you want to shave a few ounces. It was so intriguing that we asked to put our own iPad inside, which is when we were told it wouldn't fit, since the case was designed for the next iPad.

Check out some pictures of the mockup below...
