Apple in Negotiations With Carriers to Offer Subsidized iPad 3G?

Apple is in discussions with French carriers to offer the iPad 3G at a subsidized price along with a 1-2 year data contract, according to Les Echos.

HardMac reports that all French operators would be negotiating with Apple in order to release iPad 3G offers for the end of the year, aka Christmas time. They will most likely find an agreement as Apple is trying to push its iPad in every segments or niches, and already did some compromises in USA. So we can expect that future iPad 3G offers will be linked to 12 or 24 months subsidized plan, including different data package.

It's thought that the same negotiations are taking place in other European countries.

Chaos Ensues After Apple Store Lifts iPhone 4 Purchase Limit

Chaos ensued after an Apple Store in Beijing removed the limit on how many iPhone 4s could be purchased by one customer, causing police and security to temporarily close the store, according to a MICGadget report.

This is crazy. The store opened at 7am today. After 3 hours, people are stopped for queuing up and a piece of notice was being put up on the front doors, saying "Temporarily closed". No one could enter and there's only a few customers walking out with 20-30 boxes of iPhone 4. These "customers" then lurked outside the store ready to pounce on any passers-by who is checking out for iPhone 4. "Want to buy an iPhone 4?" they say. "We have a lot. Come with us."

According to sources, the real customers and the iPhone 4 scalpers had a fight in the Apple store. A gang of scalpers were cutting the queue and some customers were fed up with the scalpers for buying large quantities of iPhone 4 and resell them outside the store. The police and Apple's own security staff appeared to clean up the mess and due to the chaotic crowd, the store needs to be closed temporarily…

The contract-free iPhone 4 is priced at 4,999 yuan ($747), the scalpers are selling it for 5,500 yuan ($822).

Google Launches Google Phone Gallery

Today Google has begun rolling out the Google Phone Gallery, a showcase of Android powered devices.

All the phones in the gallery include Android Market, Google Search, and other Google Mobile services such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. There are tools that make it easy to compare phones side by side: you can filter phones by country, manufacturer, and carrier; view and compare technical specifications and features; and find where each phone is available for sale.

Final Cut Studio Delayed Until 2011, Scaled Back?

A new HardMac report says development of the upcoming Final Cut Studio suite has suffered significant setbacks and will be delayed until 2011.

A few months ago we told you that Apple were hoping to release a new version of their Final Cut Studio suite in 2010. It now seems likely that this target has been missed according to one of our sources. The development of this software suite has suffered significant setbacks and it will be necessary to wait until 2011 to see its release; furthermore, the scope of the project has been reduced.

Apple had hoped to create a unified interface for the suite; however, development teams have struggled to come to a compromise. This problem is compounded by a lack of engineering resources. Apple has switched many of its most qualified engineers to iOS, making progress on the video editing suite take longer then usual.

It's believed that the unified interface will be delayed until the 2013 release of Final Cut Studio.

iOS 4.2 Beta 2 Adds Tethering Settings to iPad

Another new find in the latest iOS 4.2 Beta reveals tethering settings for the iPad, reports 9to5Mac.

Hidden within the APN network settings on the iPad 3G is a new section dedicated to internet tethering. This tethering appears to be the type of tethering iPhones currently use versus tethering the iPhone’s internet to an iPad. This section asks for the usual username and password to setup internet tethering, and this is similar to what the iPhone had before tethering got an official iOS interface. Because of this, we believe that internet tethering is in the iPad’s future and may even launch with iOS 4.2 in November.

Notably, the tethering settings do not appear when used with a device on AT&T.

Sonic 4 Will Arrive in the App Store on October 7th

Today Sega announced that Sonic 4 will arrive in the App Store on October 7th, according to a TouchArcade report.

Today Sega announced the official release date for Sonic 4, and strangely enough, it will hit the App Store before all the other platforms on October 7th. Following that, it will appear on the Wii on October 11th, PlayStation Network on October 12th, and Xbox Live Arcade on October 13th. Needless to say, as soon as we get our hands on the final game we'll post a full review.
